What is Training and Development?

Training is a systematic process of developing knowledge, skills, attitude and technology that is needed to assist a person to perform better in the present job. This will help individual to meet up to the expectation and requirement of the demand of the job. Training is short term oriented.

Ex –Lecture method, on the job training, role plays, Computer based training, simulations, case study method, coaching, question and answer method (Q&A)

Development help an individual to meet to the expectation of a higher and more challenging job in the future. This is also referred as guided growth. 

Let’s move on to emerging trend in the training and development in a co-operate world that is e- learning.

E- Learning

The term e-learning came into use in the mid 1990’s along with the development of World Wide Web. E-learning involves the use of a computer or electronic device in some way to provide training, educational or learning materials. (Derek stockley 2003). E- Learning can use a variety of techniques, including audio and video recording, presentation, quizzes, surveys, games and discussion groups. With the emerging of the IT industry E-learning became a rapidly growing T&D method in the cooperate world. E learning provides learner to learn when most convenient time for them to conduct training. Most of the time these learnings are customized and available short elements in a one particular subject.

The most important feature of e learning is connectivity. It’s with the sharing of information net worked and connect people to some other people. The main reason to popular e-learning as a T&D tool it is believed that the human brain can easily remember and relate to what is seen and heard via moving pictures or videos. Since E learning include most of these features training become more productive.

Akzonobel as a MNC practicing an e-learning for their T&D. Akzonobel is a multinational company manufacturing paints and specialty chemicals. Akzonobel come up with learning & development tool call Articulate ‘’09 pro which facilitate internal promotions & training's. This system facilitates to empower employees, providing scandalized training to globally distributed workforce and enhanced the customer service. This is a web based system and employee who’s having low literacy in IT can attend to training's. When executive level employee joining the company there is several specific training's that he need to go through. So this ensure the same knowledge distributed among the globally distributed workforce for the promotions too applies the same principle.

E-learning plays a major role in T&D which helps to enhance knowledge skills and attitudes of global work force.
